The mid-late 1800's saw the rise of the The Victorian Era. Rich symbolism reigned supreme during this time, and families of the deceased often used these symbols to commemorate their loved ones in death.
This print shows some of the religious symbols—both Christian and Jewish—and their meanings in use at the time. If you visit Atlanta's fabled Oakland Cemetery, be sure to look for some of these icons hidden on the ancient headstones.
